Tourist attraction in the Opole Silesia are its monumental towns. In the town Brzeg Dolny on the Odra River there is the castle with rich baroque and renaissance art collections and it is often called for its beauty “Silesian Wawel”.
The town Nysa is proud of its XV century construction of monumental church of St. Jacob and renaissance Municipal Balance in the market.
The town Paczków is known from the ring of medieval walls and the church building playing the role of a bastion with a well inside.
Therefore it is called “Polish Carcasonne”.
Mt. St. Ann - the sanctuary of the Opole Silesia is the place of visits of many pilgrimages. There are Franciscan cloister and baroque Calvary chapel complexes on the mountain. For the memory of battles held by Silesian people for Polish character, the memorial Monument of Silesian Uprising was erected.
A plenty of monumental buildings were preserved from the deep past of the town Opole but the best known construction is a round Piast Tower from XIII century which viewers can always see in the background on a television screen during transmissions held of the concerts of Polish Song Festival.
On the suburbs of the town Bierkowice there is the Museum of Opole Country where you can see traditionally furnished farm buildings, manorial and peasants’ granaries, timbered little church from XVII century, wayside shrines and everybody can taste local meals in an old inn.
The Opole Province is the region where traditional culture and folklore are developed by native Silesian people. The folklore of the region has been rendered famous by “Śląsk” Song and Dance Group.
It has already been singing a song about “Yong Caroline who went to Gogolin” for a half of a century. You are kindly invited to visit our wonderful region.
